Just curious, how many of you still wear your class ring, or even know where it is?
I couldn’t resist asking this in the class Facebook group and I got more answers than I expected, including some crazy ones! Let’s start with Nancy Keppler Heitschmidt: “ Mine is in a sewer in south Chicago.” Of course, I couldn’t let that one pass and went back to Nancy to get the rest of the story: “I had taken it off to replace it with my engagement ring! I must have put it in my pocket and we figured it fell out of the car or someplace into the gutter outside of his

The Big House Stadium Tour
The reunion weekend in September kicked off with a guided tour of the University of Michigan stadium and it was a blast! Ninety minutes of truly amazing stories and visits to some of the coolest sections of the stadium, including down to the field through the tunnel, which is steeper than anyone knew. In the UM team locker room, we heard a recording of Bo Schembechler making good on a bold prediction when he arrived at Michigan in 1969 that quickly became true (“Those who

Too scary to remember but too hard to forget
If you were a young woman living in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti in the summer of 1969, you were probably scared. We all were. Rosie Downer Pannone : “Terrifying time.” Barb Kendall Souza : “Scary, scary time!” Barb DeHart Eadie : “I was afraid to go downtown alone at night.” Cheryl Meyer Sartori : “Remember it well. I didn’t feel safe.” It was the third summer when a serial killer—some newspapers labeled him “the co-ed killer”—was stalking young women right in our backy

A Picture You Won’t Want to Miss
Prom night, 1965, and the Ann Arbor News was at Ginger Hannah’s house for some pictures. What they got was a real glamour shot of five beautiful 18 year-olds from the Class of ’65: Loralyn Helms, Ginger, Anette Possnert, Joan Ridenour and Carol Martin. Now the question is, who were their lucky dates? The only two we’ve been able to come up with from the class are Terry Conlin with Joan, and Dennis Teeter with Carol. The other three names are lost to history, but w

How Did You Meet Your Spouse?
We asked this question in the class Facebook group and got a variety of answers. There weren’t any “love at first sight” reports—in fact, a couple of the stories are just the opposite. More on that in a minute. A lot of us got married way before going “online” meant anything, but Duane Brown , a very high tech guy, met his husband, Pasha, in a chat room in 2010. Pasha was Russian and Duane thought chatting with him would be a way to dust off his very dusty high school Russ

Some Classmates Who Couldn’t Come to the Reunion Sent Their Smiles
As the reunion neared, the class Facebook group was busy tracking party developments. Many were expressing disappointment that they couldn’t come this time and a few sent a recent picture. Once that ball started rolling….. In the end, 44 classmates sent a current picture and their warmest greetings to pass along at the reunion. Pamela Conn Hyde , in her usual creative way, made something of this and had large photo boards made and set them up by the registration table. Class
